How to Upgrade the software on your Humax.

1. Download the software

First download the new software and the loader from the Humax website (see links page). There are different versions of the software, for each of the different models. The one you choose also depends on the serial number of your receiver. You can also determine the software type by looking on the 'Status' screen and see what the driver type is, and match this to the name of the software file. The Latest version numbers can be found on the 'Latest Software Versions' page.

SCI files are for the newer 'SuperSet' receivers and they also require different software on the PC to download these files, as do the newest 'OAK' receivers.

2. Power off the Humax

Power off the Humax receiver, using the small switch next to the mains lead at the back of the box. The upgrade will not work if you only power off using the remote control or the button on the front of the box

3. Connect your PC to the Humax

Connect the serial port on your PC to the 9 pin ‘D’ connector on the back of the Humax.

For NCI and FCI types, the cable is straight through for 9 pin to 9 pin (i.e. pin 1 at one end connects to pin 1 at the other, pin 2 to pin 2 etc.). (If you have a 25 pin ‘D’ connector on your PC the cable should be pin 2 on the 25 pin to pin 3 on the 9 pin, pin 3 on the 25 pin to pin 2 on the 9 pin, and pin 7 on the 25 pin to pin 5 on the 9 pin.)

For SCI and OAK types, the cable is a 'Null Modem' type. For a 9 pin this is pin 2 to 3, 3 to 2, and 5 to 5. (For a 25 way use pin 2 to 2, 3 to 3 and 7 on the 25 way to pin 5 on the 9 pin)

4. Start the PC software downloader

See below for the details of the different download software varients

5. Power on the Humax

Power on the Humax receiver, using the small switch next to the mains lead at the back of the box.

It should then display P-00 and the software should display

Downloading 0%

If you get an error message on the front panel display, at this point, check the "Error Codes" page, to see the meaning of the message, and take the action necessary to correct the situation.

The receiver displays P-99 , it then counts again from P-00 to P-99, and then DONE will flash. Wait until this message is displayed before doing anything else. This whole process can take anything up to 10 minutes (depending on the baudrate set).

6. When the download finishes, put the Humax into Standby.

You then need to turn the receiver onto standby, by pressing the 'ON' button on the front of the box.

7. You are finished, remove the cable !

Disconnect the cable between the PC and the receiver, and put it somewhere safe for the next time !!
