DIRK:What are you doing here anyway?
GLYNIS: What are you? You promised you'd have nothing more to do with Lady Maslum.
DIRK: I must see Lady Maslum, I want her advice.
GLYNIS: Why hers? Why not mine?
DIRK: Well, because she's shrewd.
GLYNIS: And i'm a fool?
DIRK: No, It's just that I think a lot of her judgement thats all.
GLYNIS: And nothing of mine?
DIRK: Look she's a business woman.
GLYNIS: And I'm not?
DIRK: Oh will you stop tolling like a graveyard bell!
GLYNIS: Now I'm tolling! Now, I'm a graveyard bell!
DIRK: Look, if you must know, it's beause I've been taken for a ride. I'm going to loose an awful lot of money and it's not all mine. I'm washed up. I'm finished. I'm ruined, done for.
GLYNIS: Dong! Dong!
DIRK: What's the matter?
GLYNIS: I'm a graveyard bell.
DIRK: Oh be quiet.
DIRK storms off into the corner. GLYNIS follows and kisses him. The butler grins.
GLYNIS: Go and explain to your father.
DIRK: Explain to him? Huh!
GLYNIS: Don't sneer. He's lived a straight and useful life.
DIRK: And where did it get him before he came into his money?
GLYNIS: And where did it get you?
DIRK: Nowhere, thanks to the war.
The butler sighs as if to say "That old chestnut"
GLYNIS: The war! Same old excuse!
DIRK: Well, its true isnt it? Theres no place for me anymore.
GLYNIS: And why? Because you want to take everything and give nothing.
DIRK: Alright. I'm no use in the real world but I exist. And i'm going to go on existing so mind your own business and clear out!
GLYNIS storms off and decides to throw the cushion at him. He catches it and uses it to fend off the items she decides to throw at him. The butler hands her a small ornament to throw. The butler notices that Lady Maslow is coming and shouts "Allo!"
DIRK: Oh shut up!
He throws the cushion, the butler ducks and Lady Maslum gets it straight in the face. DIRK clamps his hand over his mouth.
