DIRK and ED are playing a ball game on the stairs, the object of the game being to hit each other with the ball. DIRK: 13:10, count it as that. ED: Well I can't do anymore, I have to bend all the time. DIRK: What about me? I'm in the inferior position, I'm playing uphill. ED: I need a drink. DIRK: That's half the point of the game, the bending. You're getting as fat as a pig, you need the exercise. ED: Right, service! ED throws the ball and it hits DIRK. ED: 14:12. DIRK: That wasn't fair. I wasn't ready. ED: I said service, didn't I? DIRK: I'm not having that point counted. ED: What do you mean? That's a perfectly fair point. What about the other night? You did six of them like that. DIRK: That's no reason to take advantage of the fact that you're sitting in the best position. You ought to be able to play the game according to the rules. ED: My dear Barratt, you're just a little upset because you're loosing the game. DIRK: Oh, take your ball! ED: Take it yourself! ED throws the ball and it hits DIRK squarely in the face. DIRK: Ooow! ED: What's the matter? DIRK: I'm going. Clear out the way. I'm not staying here. I'm not staying here in a place where they chuck balls in your face! ED: Oh don't be a fool. Oh go on, let's have a drop of brandy. Tell you what we'll do - we'll call that game a draw. DIRK: Push your brandy. ED: Don't talk to me like that! DIRK: Push you and your brandy! | |||||||||||||||||||||||
