DIRK walks into the room where his WIFE is arranging flowers. DIRK: Marie? Do you think you could stop that? Long enough to listen to this? MARIE: Yes darling. SHE continues pruning. DIRK: Marie? MARIE: I'm listening. DIRK plays a piece on the piano. MARIE: It has a...religious quality. DIRK: Therefore no good. MARIE: Well, you know my feelings on that subject. DIRK: Yes, I know your feelings on that subject. Is it the music you object to? Or the church? MARIE: Oh Franz. Let's not play angel and devil with each other. You have your beliefs, I have mine. DIRK: What about the children's beliefs? MARIE: Do you really care? DIRK: Yes, I do care. I care very much. I want them to have the consolation of the faith. MARIE: What consolation has it ever bought you? Well, I'll try to make them understand, Franz, that while they must believe in all the virtues, we find it easier to live in adultery. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
